SHIPBUILDING.

CHINESE TORPEDO BOAT DEPOT SHIP.

(Umi to Sora - June, 1938).

A 1,500 ton torpedo boat depot ship (name

unknown) which has been under construction at the

Chiulung Dockyard, Hong Kong since the year before

last, to the order of the Chinese Government, was

launched on May 6th. As almost all Chinese warships

have been destroyed during the current incident,

particular efforts have been made to build this ship

as quickly as possible. This ship, upon completion,

will become the depot ship for the few motor torpedo

boats owned by the Chinese Government but it is

doubtful, for financial reasons whether she will be

fitted out as originally planned or whether she

will be able to operate even when completed.
